Keiko in Amateur Sumou differs from Oozumou Keiko in its length, content, and timing.
In Japanese Universities, where Sumou is practiced Keiko takes place in the afternoons, as compared to the mornings in Oozumou and is much shorter, usually 2 hours.
For Amateur Sumou practice in a club outside Japan practice time between 1 and 2 hours should be appropriate. You should practice at least 3 times a week. Generally, everyday practice is considered essential.
The key focus of Keiko must be on Basic Sumou exercises.
Generally, Amateur Keiko consists of the following sequence of exercises:
1. Shiko 2. Shinkyaku 3. Matawari 4. Suriashi 5. Moushiai 6. Tachiai Keiko 7. End-of-practice Routine
