世界相撲選手権大会

The World Sumou Championships is a top-level contest in Amateur Sumou organized usually yearly. It is organized by International Sumou Federation.

The event is for men. For women a similar event in Shinzumou is organized by also usually yearly. It is the World Shinzumou Championships. Usually both events take place on the same date at the same venue.

For Juniors, the Junior World Sumou Championships are held.

There are Weight Categories in Amateur Sumou and the World Sumou Championships are organized in each of the categories. They are held, therefore, in 4 Weight Categories:

• Open, no weight limits
• Heavyweight, above 115 kg
• Middleweight, under 115 kg
• Lightweight, under 85 kg

Additionally, competition takes place in the Teams division.
