The basic unit of the Houshoukin system.

Each Rikishi start their career with a virtual sum of money in their Mochikyuukin bank. Every positive event in their Sumou career raises this amount.

Sekitori receive 4,000 times their Mochikyuukin for every Basho of each calendar year, i.e. six times a year.

Therefore, for instance, if a Sekitori's Mochikyuukin is 100 Yen, he will be paid 100 * 4,000 = 400,000 Yen 6 times a year by the Nihon Sumou Kyoukai. In total he will therefore receive 2,400,000 Yen per year.
